Yay! National Sew a Jelly Roll Day is September 20th, 2025! I'm so excited, they're not everyone's favorite precut but they are definitely one of mine!
A Jelly Roll is a type of precut fabric, it usually contains 40 strips from a single fabric collection - each strip is 2.5" x WOF (width of fabric). Fabric is usually around 40-44" wide so that is how long the 2.5" strips are! Jelly rolls are convenient for quilters as they save time and effort from cutting.
I recently made a quilt with a Washi Plus Jelly Roll! And used the extra jelly roll strips to make a scrappy binding! The recipe was easy, one Dorothy pattern, one washi plus jelly roll and 2.25 Yards of Speckled in Golden Hour. I was able to make this quilt top is just one day with this beginner friendly pattern. I do have to give my stripology XL ruler a special shoutout because it made things go even quicker! Check out my video HERE on using up extra jelly roll strips for quilt binding!

On September 20th I'm thinking of making the Dorothy Pattern again but with a Starry Jelly Roll and White on Natural Starry for the background fabric! What do you think?

Already have a jelly roll at home that you want to use up? I've put together a list of Jelly Roll Friendly Patterns! All of these require additional fabric so make sure to check out our fabric by the yard for your background, binding, and backing fabric choices!
