Beginner Friendly “Picnic” Quilt - Free Quilt Pattern

I am so excited to share this quilt with a full tutorial on my YouTube! I picture this being the perfect picnic quilt, especially with my fabric choices (ruby star society “food group”).

I used the strip piecing method to make this quilt come together so quickly you’ll only need a weekend for the quilt top. It is even quicker if you use a jelly roll (pack of 2.5” x WOF strips) but you can definitely use yardage and cut it into 2.5” by width of fabric strips on your own to. This is assuming that your width of fabric is 42” or larger.

See fabric requirements below to make this 64” square throw size quilt and check out my YouTube for the full tutorial. Don’t forget to check out my Amazon storefront for product links as well.

Number of Jelly Roll Strips
OR 2.5” x width of fabric strips
(checkerboard rectangles on design)
Background Fabric
(solid rectangles on design)
Backing Fabric
(Buy extra if you need to pattern match!!!)
Binding Fabric
32 2 Yards 3-3/4 yards 1/2 Yard
(7 - 2.5”xWOF strips)

I quilted this with 30wt aurifil thread on my sewing machine with a serpentine stitch which is my go-to when I don’t know how to quilt something, it looks good on almost anything!

Enjoy! If you make this quilt I’d love to see it, please share your photos with me at joyintheseam@gmail.com
